Wisdom Bit: Using the Power of Moon Cycles to Heal Your Life

Full Moon Meditations

Full Moon, May 23, 2005

Set aside an hour or two tonight to be with yourself. Set an intention to release anything and everything that is no longer needed in your life. Intend to clear yourself of old, stagnant, stale, superfluous energies that are no longer serving you and your life.

The full moon is a time of power for this intention. Here are a few suggestions on how to proceed:

One: Create a Ritual for Letting Go

a. Place yourself somewhere inside your home or outside if the weather permits where you can see the full moon in all its glory.

b. Gather some ritual or altar items that bring a sense of safety and a feeling of the sacred. Examples might be a beautiful scarf, a candle, a seashell, a picture or statue of your favorite religious deity or God, pictures of yourself.

c. Bring with you items that represent what you are willing to let go of tonight.

d. Gather your tools of creativity: paints, crayons, markers, pastels, paper, journal, glitter, etc.

e. Enter the silence and close your eyes. Relax every part of your body. Send love to everyone including yourself. Pray. Ask for guidance on what you need to let go of.

f. When you are ready, open your eyes and let creativity have its way with you. Journal on anything that came to you during your silent meditation and prayer. Paint, draw, dance, sing, drum to your heart's content. Let it all out. Let the unconscious bring to you images, feelings, movements of what is ready to go.

g. Ponder on what has come to you. Are you ready to release and let go of what has arisen to your conscious mind?

h. Speak out loud what you are ready to let go of. Write it down.

i. If it feels right and you can do it safely, burn the list from above and let the fire transform the old into something new. Or simply let the fire take it and be willing to sit in emptiness for awhile until the new manifests itself.

j. Take a deep cleansing breath, stretch your body. Drink some chamomile tea and sleep soundly. Tomorrow is a New and Glorious day. You are Ready!

TWO: Draw Tonight's Full Moon

a. Do steps a-e.

b. Draw or paint the moon that you see. Really look at it and draw/paint from observation rather than from our predispositions of what a full moon looks like.

Drawing helps one to see more clearly. By drawing tonight's full moon, you will begin to understand the energy of the full moon and draw its energy to you. By drawing the full moon with the intention of letting go, you will draw out what you no longer need and send it the moon (pun not intended but made me laugh!).

Along with the drawing and setting of your intention, think about the things that you are letting go of and how putting them into space between you and this moon will help dissolve them into thin air so as not to harm anyone. In this way, they will not be sent off to bother anyone else.

c. Refer to steps g-j to put closure on your session.

Refer to my inspiring image of Dance of the Midnight Sun for further enlightenment on the drawing process in connection to the full moon.

CONGRATULATIONS for taking care of yourself tonight!
