Title:
Tilda Santiago's Mask of Connecticut, Global
Art Project 2002
Artist: Tilda Santiago
Media: Mixed Media: Plaster gauze,
acrylic paint, and gel medium

About This Art Piece:
I am only one person in Connecticut, one in the United
States, one on Earth, one in this Universe. Yet as
"One", I can make a difference. A difference of
sharing, of Love, of Peace on earth. I often ask myself why am I
here? Why in Connecticut? Why don't I go somewhere else? Perhaps
I don't have the answer but I know I love the four seasons in
this state.
That's where the idea of sharing a mask as part of Art and
peace in the world stemmed from. I made the mask molding on my
own face. The long curls on my head became the branches of trees
with deep roots. The four seasons are depicted as leaves on the
branches starting with spring entering on the left and ending
with winter on it's way out on the right cheek. The Connecticut
River flows across the face from right to left, a beach on the
lower left side of the chin. Mountain regions, night sky and sun
shining on the spring flowers are all part of what I enjoy here
in Connecticut.
