Title: Ma's
Tea Set
Artist: Mary Gravelle
Media: Oil on canvas, 28" x
20"

About this image:
I painted this image during Painting class at Manchester
Community College in the Spring. It will be on display there for
a couple more weeks.
It is a still life of my mother's tea set, circa 1950's,
which I had acquired some years ago. I think I share with you at
this time because of Thanksgiving next week.
I will be visiting my mother and family in Indiana. With all
the family weirdness of the past, I am thankful for everything.
And I feel especially thankful for having a mother whose
unconditional love envelopes me every moment and gives me the
foundation to reach out to this sometimes cold world of ours.

Inspiring
Message for you:
How does it inspire you? Post
your comment.
Perhaps the inspiration comes from the enhanced color scheme.
The real tea set is a beige and brown color. The tea set's
design has always put a spark of wonder in me. It is a little
strange, almost the shape of a genie's lamp.
My painting teacher, Rick Harden, begged me to bring in the
tea set when he saw this home assignment painting. When I did,
he told me to take the set back home and wished he hadn't seen
the set in real life. I had painted the tea set to seem more dazzling than it really was.
So, what's the message? Enhance your life if it seems dull.
Liven up your world with a dash of color and whimsical touch.
Show your true colors. The colors inside you will come out if
coaxed a bit. I saw these colors in the tea set, even though Mr.
Harden thinks I made them up. They were there, under the bright
light to my eye's scrutiny.
What are your true colors? Take a real close look and see
your light shining through. What colors do you see in yourself?
How can you express those to the world? Can you paint your rooms
of your house bright colors that reflect your true style? Can
you wear brighter colors? Can you use colorful language? How can
your work become enhanced with color? How can you be bolder and
brighter? How can you help us brighten this world? Brighten your
world and the whole worlds brightens as a result.
THE END
