RE: Oaxaca, Mexico, Sunday, March 5
Today was the beginning session [of the Sacred Art -- Sacred
Places workshop facilitated by the New England Art Therapy Institute].
Introductions to the other people, workshop attendees and
facilitators and introduction to the workshop and schedule.
Also, introduction to the city of Oaxaca and the Zocalo and how
to get around and back to the hotel.
We ventured as a group to the Zocalo and Peter [London,
author of "No More Second Hand Art"] gave us a quick
grand tour.
Then we went back and did some art on what "sacred"
meant to us.
I drew a pink and purple circle with a green inner circle and
the word "Truth" in the middle (written in black). I
collected flowers and petals and glued those on. Sacred, to me,
meant Truth, unshakable truth, something that cannot be argued,
like truth or the beauty of nature. The flowers just are -- they
are sacred, they are truth -- you cannot argue that they are --
they just are. Sacred means something is so special it cannot be
touched or messed with, it cannot be broken down, it's
unshakable.

What is Truth to you? What is Sacred?
Today's Daily Guide in the magazine, Science of Mind, www.scienceofmind.com,
titled today's writing, Be Yourself. It tells us that
being true to oneself keeps one in the flow of life and helps us
be true in our relationships with others. "If we are not
true to our hearts, can we then be true to the world?", it
asks.
It quotes Shakespeare, "To thine own self, be true and
it must follow as the night, the day; thou can'st not then be
false to any man."
In the passage there is also a story of Chuang-tse and the
Tortoise, a Taoist story about being true to yourself. At rivers
edge one day, Chuang-tse was offered a position at the court of
Prince of Shu'u. Chuang-tse asked if it was true that the Prince
had a sacred tortoise, over 2,000 years old, which is kept in a
box, wrapped in silk brocade. Upon hearing it was true, he
replied with the question, "which do you think he would
have liked better--to have been alive in the mud, or dead within
the palace?" The reply came, "To be alive in the mud,
of course." Chuang-tse replied, "Then leave me alone
and let me drag my tail in the mud."
Then there is the old cliché, the Truth shall set you free.
Truth is sacred. But, is Truth the same for each of us? And
is the Truth really unshakable? Does it change as we change? And
is sacred a good thing, after all? Sacred Cows in a working
environment are not good. They are a hindrance to change and new
order.
Do we need to let go of personal Truth? Or is Personal Truth
the truth of the matter that will set all of us free? If we were
each to practice and maintain our own personal truth, would
there be war? Would peace prevail if we all remained true to our
hearts? No, I think not. Truth is different for each of us. We
only need to respect each other's personal truth and learn from
each other. Let each other's personal truth soften us to a new
reality and expand our being ness into compassionate
understanding that Truth is only as good as we are. Truth serves
whom?
Are there different Truths? Religious truths, personal
truths, sacred truths, spiritual truths, human truths, earth
truths, plant truths, animal truths? Is there a Truth Thread
that weaves all this together? Where in the world am I going
with all this?
What is Truth?
What is Sacred?
Does Sacred = Truth?
Does Truth = Sacred?
What do you think?
THE END
