Artist Greer Jonas
Medium
: Mixed Media, 48" x 36"

2004 VMI Award Winner, 1st Place

Painting by Greer Jonas
Title: Embrace
4' x 3' Acrylic paint and paper on canvas

My intention statement: "I embrace the greatness that resides within me".
Wow, dare I say it? Dare I feel it? Dare I reach out to the world and shout it?
It was a reach for me to acknowledge this statement. The support of some wonderful and supportive friends made this possible.

Once accepting it, I could not stop smiling... it tickled me. And every day for 28 days I took my 5 inch square art pad - announced my intention and painted (using acrylic paint and lots of gold metallic colors). Most days, it was a glorious experience, filling me with pride and love for myself, channeling my sense of greatness and abundance. Some days I felt shy, and other days my paintings were dark, filled with fear and grief. At the end of 28 days.... it was not enough! I wanted more! So I took 5 pieces that I especially loved and pasted it on a 4 foot x 3 foot canvas. I began to paint around the squares... connecting the dots. Lots of crazy things happened as I learned that the paste I used ruined the paper. I found textured paper and built collages to cover the parts that were ruined.... it began to take on a life of its own and I didn't want the experience to end... but finally seven months later it felt complete.

My next step was to bring it out for all to see.. . This was part of my statement. For to "embrace the greatness within me", I needed to share it with the world. Thus Mary's invitation to submit my painting on her website was such a gift. Thank you everyone for contributing to my vision in such a supportive way. And thank you Mary for your process and your gift.

The title of the painting is "Embrace".
Let all who see it experience that special piece within themselves that they can embrace in their own special way.

THE END
