Title: Glory

Virginia Lynn Anderson (Eland'Ra)
Size/Medium: 20" x 28"
/Watercolor and dry pastel
About this Painting:
Mary,
Well, here I go....we've been crossing paths for quite a
while, and I've been admiring your growth, wondering when I'd be ready
to submit one of my paintings on your site. Your sharing of your
feminine triangle series has inspired me to send this painting that
I created several years ago titled "Glory".
I used a complete tube of crimson watercolor on this
piece....yes, believe it or not, it is watercolor and dry pastel....I
painted this as a post-menopausal piece to celebrate the changes that my
body has undergone.
For quite sometime, the morning glory spoke to
me as an image that wanted to be painted. When I finally stopped to
capture its essence I was quite surprised how it translated.
This
painting was a joy for me to create and was a very sensual
experience....opening up to a new side of myself as I painted. I could feel the
opening of the "feminine flower", my sensual self as I painted.
The vibrancy and sensuality of the color red in all of its spectrum came
into my body as the paint was absorbed in the paper. The curves of the
flower and the sexual parts of the flower were wonderful to paint and
to feel through the painting. That part of my being had been
stifled and not given very much permission to express itself.
The passage
of life that occurred with menopause was, I felt, certainly
something to celebrate and this painting was the opportunity to let that
be revealed. I hope it inspires you or others if you choose to share it.
With love,
Virginia / Eland' Ra
Bio:
Virginia Lynn Anderson (Eland'Ra) is a self-taught artist who
works
with the
spiritual and natural realms to create her paintings. She began
her
adventures in art in 1992 when she was inspired by the beauty of
a
summer
sunset and felt the impulse to capture its majesty on paper.
Her
paintings
have grown in expression through a variety of media that
includes
watercolor, pastel, acrylic and oil pastel. While many of her
paintings
are
created though the visionary process, she also receives
inspiration
through
her intimate connection with the natural world.
Virginia's landscape expressions were born as an outgrowth of
her work
in
the interior design field. Her landscapes capture the essence of
the
natural
environment and enhance the public places where they find their
new
homes.
Commissioned paintings offer her clients the opportunity to have
unique,
site specific works of art that are created specifically to fit
into
interior design and architectural themes.
Limited edition giclee
prints
are
available as a high quality, yet less expensive alternative to
her
original
paintings.
Ms. Anderson creates Native American medicine shields and
teaches this
ancient art form in workshops for adults and children. A shield
is a
painting on leather that is sewn onto a vine or wood hoop and
then
decorated. They depict spirit guides and animal totems which are
symbolic
images, significant to the person receiving or painting the
shield.
The name "Eland'Ra" means bringing heaven to earth. It
is a spiritual
name
given to Virginia in meditation. The intent for all of her art
is to
inspire
others, to assist them on their path of awakening to the divine
within
themselves and to share the beauty of the natural world.
Her
work can be
found in public and private galleries, hospitals and corporate
collections.
She works out of her studio in West Hartford, CT.
