Surrender and the Igniting Your Intention Process:Written by Mary Gravelle, June 19, 2001
I watched Gary Zukav on Oprah on June 18, 2001 whose
topic was Surrender. It just happened to be the topic of discussion at the
Igniting session that night at the Gathering Place. How timely! Gary says that to Surrender is to accept our life as
it is right now. It is also about letting go and moving on. It does not mean
giving up. It means accepting our life the way it is without resisting or
wishing it was different. To change our life, we must accept our life. Gary
tells us to step into our life at each moment and see how we feel to make right
decisions. We need to accept our emotions and feelings because they are valuable
and have meaning. Not paying attention to our feelings or emotions is not
accepting our life and is causing us pain. Resisting what we know is not
accepting our life. He gave us an exercise:
1.
Stop what we are doing 2.
Feel what we are feeling 3.
Change “yes, but” to “now what?" Gary says that we need to say to ourselves that
everything we feel is valid and necessary to our spiritual growth. To accept our
own life, we need to use what we see when the light goes on during an aha!
moment. When we see something that needs to be changed, do it. Surrender during the Igniting process is like making a sandwich of the three-step process of Action, Intention, and Follow-through. Think of a club sandwich that has that extra piece of bread in the middle. Surrender is the piece of bread between the layers of cheese and meat. In other words: Action, Surrender, Intention, Surrender, Follow-through, Surrender. I think of Surrender also as a breath or a pause between the steps. You take Action when you show up every day to the process. Breathe and surrender to the fact that you have shown up. You state your intention. Breathe and surrender to your intention. You follow-through with your daily process of writing and drawing and you breathe and surrender to the process. Every step of the process asks you to breathe, pause, and surrender to it. Surrender is very active in this way. It also softens the process with gentleness. Surrendering also means patting yourself on the back in doing your part. You have taken the steps necessary. Now surrender, breath, and pause before continuing. Acknowledge your part in the process. Surrender to what comes as a result. |
